It’s easy to find cheap tickets with Redspottedhanky.com.
And now the wallet-savvy watchdogs at Which? have said it pays to find cheap fares using our journey planner, as we’re the only third party website that doesn’t charge users a booking fee.
In fact, Which? has warned cost-conscious commuters that many other websites charge fees for booking and for using credit and debit cards. Meaning train travel can end up costing more than advertised.
“The only such site we looked at that doesn’t charge fees is Red Spotted Hanky,” Which? said. “Most of the other third party websites charge fees, either for debit or credit cards, booking or both.”
Apart from using our journey planner to find cheap fares, Which? has advised train-travellers to save by making sure they understand the differences between advance, off-peak and anytime train tickets.
According to the watchdog, a worrying 61 per cent of train travellers didn’t know that advance tickets are non-refundable, leading to some unlucky commuters being left out-of-pocket when their plans changed at the last-minute.
