Train travel gets the royal seal of approval from Kate and Her Maj

Posted on

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may have made headlines when they chartered a private train to Glasgow last year, but they’re not the only celebs to give train travel a try.

Yesterday, Kate Middleton – Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, all hopped on board at London’s St. Pancras Station to kick-start the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour. Read on for more about train travel getting the royal seal of approval…

It’s been well publicised that the Her Majesty the Queen will be touring Britain in order to mark her 60th year as monarch. And yesterday, Queen Elizabeth II, her husband and her granddaughter-in-law travelled from London to Leicester to begin the Queen’s Jubilee Tour, giving train travel the royal seal of approval.

Catherine, Prince Phillip and Her Majesty all boarded a train leaving St. Pancras headed for Leicester, where they were met with large crowds, applause and much flag-waving.

Although the royal family do have a royal train which is used to accommodate longer train journeys, particularly overnight journeys, the Duchess, the Duke and the Queen travelled yesterday using a specially scheduled commuter train instead.

Both royal ladies gave onlookers and fellow train commuters a look at how a Queen and future Queen travel in style. Her Majesty donned a pink cashmere ensemble from couturier Angela Kelly, while Catherine wore a teal peplum suit from high-street label L. K. Bennett and a pill-box hat.

It’s been well documented that Kate Middleton’s choices largely spark trends, with designs she’s worn selling out within hours and the Kennel Club reporting an increase in demand for cocker spaniels since Kate and William brought dog Lupo into the royal fold.

So, it’s wondered whether The Duchess Effect will also hold true for train travel now that Kate’s been pictured taking the train to and from London.

Just remember to check our journey planner for cheap tickets if you do want to make like the Duchess and take the train – after all, Kate’s known for her love of a bargain.
