Five summer destinations worthy of a last minute getaway

There’s nothing worse than summer coming to an end and realising you haven’t quite made the most of it. That’s why we, here at redspottedhanky.com, have found five fantastic UK destinations that are perfect for a last minute summer getaway. So grab your bucket and spade, pack your flip flops (and maybe an umbrella as they are UK destinations after all) and get booking your train tickets today.

Gower Peninsula

Nearest Train Station: Gowerton Train Station

Just outside of Swansea, Gower Peninsula was designated as the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty back in 1956 and we can see why. Combining coast and countryside, Gower is a geological goldmine filled with fantastic landscapes. With the beaches boasting some of the best waves in Britain plus a 19 mile-long Peninsula full of beautiful scenery, it’s the perfect place to spend a summer’s day.

Polperro

Nearest Train Station: L ooe Train Station

Polperro is a village and fishing harbour on the south-east of Cornwall, near Looe. Thanks to its idyllic appearance and tightly-packed ancient fishermen’s houses it’s a fantastic quaint harbour town with a lovely coast line. Plus, due to the village’s quaint, narrow streets making driving is difficult there are horse and cart rides plus milk floats disguised as trams to help you travel around the peaceful harbour.

Burnham Overy Staithe Beach

Nearest Train Station: Sheringham Train Station

A civil parish on the north coast of Norfolk is Burnham Overy. The secluded beach is just over a mile walk away, however it’s worth it for the undisturbed and unspoilt coastline. The walk to the beach is part of the Norfolk Coast Path and is favoured by many as an enjoyable stretch of coastal path. So grab your friends and head on down for a peaceful beach trip this summer.

Wembury Beach

Nearest Train Station: Plymouth Train Station

Found in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is Wembury, a beautiful part of the coastline forming the South Devon Heritage Coast. Perfect for those looking to do some rock pooling or seek out some wildlife. The National Trust looks after the popular beach and the Devon Wildlife Trust oversee the Wembury Marine Centre.

Coppet Hall

Nearest Train Station: Saundersfoot Train Station

Coppet Hall is situated on the northern end of Saundersfoot beach, and the golden sands are known locally as Coppet Hall beach. When Saundersfood harbour was built, Coppet Hall was the busiest area, however it is now a quiet peaceful beach enjoyed by many. Providing the perfect place for a little picnic or two this summer.
