May is an exciting month for bank holiday’s and to ensure you’re making the most of this extra time we’ve found the best events you can reach by train for the Spring Bank Holiday. Each one is a great day out for all the family and an event worth travelling to. There’s no better way to make each event an adventure than to travel there by train, so we’ve made it easy to see which station you need to alight at.

River Cottage Spring Food Fair @rivercottage

Nearest Train Station: Axminster Train Station

If you head on down to River Cottage over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend you will be met with a fantastic fair celebrating all things River Cottage. With stalls selling fresh, local produce, along with arts and crafts there is plenty for you to see and do. You will be able to listen to talks and live music, join in with garden and foraging tours and there’s even a chance to get your cookbook signed by Hugh himself. Plus, all under 16’s can go along for free! It’s probably best if you book your tickets in advance, which you can do here.

Spring Spectacular at Pavilion Gardens @GardensBuxton

Nearest Train Station: Buxton Train Station

The Spring Spectacular at the Pavilion Gardens is a three day event held in the promenade and Gardens Marquee. With a variety of entertainment to keep you amused over the weekend, you will also find numerous street food stalls, crafts, clothing and other unique stands filling the Garden Marquee.

Tetbury Woolsack Races @tetburywoolsack

On the 28th May this year the annual Tetbury Woolsack Race will be taking place, bringing with it thousands of spectators as people raise money for great causes. It is thought that the races originated in the 17th Century as a way for young drovers to show off to local women; however an official race day has been running for over thirty years.
