The Nine Best Bars to Grab a Drink at in Birmingham

We’ve already discussed the taste sensation that is Birmingham’s foodie scene, but what about those moments where only a drink (or two) will do?

Well fear no more!

We’re sharing only the best bars in Brum that will allow you to un-wind and de-stress after a day exploring all that the city has to offer. All of the bars mentioned are easily accessible from Birmingham’s main train stations such as Birmingham New Street , Birmingham Moor Street and Birmingham Snow Hill.

Ginger’s Bar @PurnellsBistro

Aiming to re-educate Birmingham with their knowledge, passion and inventiveness is Ginger’s Bar at Purnell’s Bistro. Their award-winning bartenders take inspiration from first edition cocktail books dating back to the early 1900’s, continually creating and inspiring you with the drinks they create. With an extensive list of spirits, world beers, curious local ales, a long wine list, fantastic cocktails and even alcohol free drinks, we’re sure you’ll find something to satisfy your thirst.

The Victoria @TheVictoria

A theatre pub dating back to the end of the 19th century, expect a watering hole with lots of character. With a changing selection of Cask Ales (they’re listed on Birmingham’s Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) website) you’re sure to see something new with each visit. If cocktails are more your thing, there is a wide selection of classic and seasonal cocktails for you to choose from. Don’t worry though; there is also a large wine menu, great selection of spirits and mixers as well as beer, soft drinks and good old tea and coffee.

If you’re looking for a bar, Mechu has four for you to choose from. Making everyone feel like a VIP from the minute they step over the threshold, Mechu’s talented bar staff are inherently creative and ensure that their guests get the drinks they desire. Treating mixology as a craft, you can guarantee the drink you chose from their inventive list is a creation of striking science matched by the art of its presentation.

The Bureau @TheBureauBar

Inspired by the past hundred years of bar culture, The Bureau creates a friendly and social environment that has a mix of elegant, regal vintage and modern design. Their drinks menu is both creative and intriguing. If you’re lucky enough to visit when the sun is shining then you just have to make the most of it and enjoy your drink on their roof top terrace, you won’t regret it.

The Lost & Found @hettiegwatson

Created as a Victorian, botanical hideaway the Lost & Found is the perfect place to enjoy a nice cold beer, refreshing glass of wine or complex cocktail. Their extensive drinks menu ensures there is something for everyone to enjoy, and all of their cocktails have been created by their own bar team and use only the finest quality ingredients and spirits. If you catch them on the right day, you may even get to sneak behind their hidden bookcase and enjoy your libation from their secret bar.

BrewDog @brewdog

Since opening their doors in 2012 BrewDog has been hooking the people of Birmingham up with a steady stream of Grade A quality craft beer on a daily basis. Serving up a huge selection of rare and unique craft beers from around the world, BrewDog wants to create an environment where you can indulge in everything that is great about craft beer. They’ve also added a ‘kickass’ range of coffee made from artisan coffee roasters to their bar, just in case you’re not feeling a pint that day (unlikely, we’re sure).

The Jam House @TheJamHouse

A one stop destination for drink, food and live music, The Jam House provides the perfect place to eat, drink and dance to your heart’s content. With a wide variety of different cocktails on their cocktail menu you’ll be sure to find the right one for you. Their extensive wine list will help you find the perfect glass, or bottle, to see you through your evening, and don’t forget to see what beers they have on tap. Perfect for an afternoon pit stop or a place to dance the night away.

Island Bar @IslandBar

Island Bar opened its doors back in 2006 with the determination to bring soul to the Birmingham nightlife scene; becoming a hub for music and drink lovers alike. With the focus of the bar centred solely on the drinks, it’s no wonder they were voted one of the top 50 bars in the UK by the Independent on Sunday. Expect a wide range of unique cocktails that’ll give you a taste for Island life. If nothing takes your fancy, just let one of the bar tenders know and they’ll be happy to whip you up something delightful. When you’re there, make sure you check out their unique Tiki Bar which can be found upstairs.

The Jekyll & Hyde @Jekyll_n_Hyde

Serving a wide range of drinks, from a classic G&T to any number of their inventive cocktail concoctions in a venue that has two personalities. Head on over to Mr. Hyde’s emporium downstairs if you’re looking for quirky cocktails, cask ales, beers and ciders. If gin is more your thing, head on upstairs to Dr. Jekyll’s Gin parlour where you can try over 90 different varieties along with some Gin Flights.
