Off-peak train tickets can be purchased in advance on our website, but time restrictions do apply and you need to check the restrictions. Reservations are not usually required for these train tickets.
Off-peak train fares are cheaper tickets for travelling on trains during less busy times.
Offering good value for money, off-peak train tickets may require you to travel at specific times of day, certain days of the week or on a specific route. Where there is more than one off-peak fare for a journey, the cheaper fare with more restrictions will be called Super Off-Peak.
You can buy off-peak train tickets any time before you travel. The travel restrictions for your off-peak train ticket will depend on your journey and will be explained when you buy your ticket.
Off-peak single and off-peak day (single and return) train tickets must be used on the date shown on the ticket. For off-peak return tickets, outward journeys must be made on the date shown on your ticket and return journeys must be made within one calendar month.
The trains you can catch and times you can travel with an off-peak ticket vary considerably depending on the journey being made, the day and date of travel, and the train company you travel with.
Child discounts apply for all off-peak fares, and railcard holders get one-third off all off-peak fares. Senior, HM Forces and Disabled Persons Railcard holders also get one-third off all first class off-peak fares.
Please note that minimum fares and time restrictions may apply to tickets bought with a railcard.
