Merseyrail Electric Ltd owns 66 of the 67 stations serviced by Merseyrail trains, calling at popular destinations such as Southport, Liverpool Lime Street, Ormskirk, Ellesmere Port, New Brighton, Preston, Chester, West Kirby and Hunts Cross. Merseyrail also operates services to four underground stations in Liverpool city centre, as well as a service to Liverpool South Parkway for connections to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Groups of 10 or more travelling on Merseyrail trains can enjoy a discount of 26% for adults and 63% for children. To take advantage of the operator's group booking offer, passengers need to contact Merseyrail at least seven days before the date of travel.
All Merseyrail trains welcome passengers with bikes, who can find dedicated cycle storage areas at each end of the train. Cyclists are encouraged not to bring cycles onto trains during peak travel times however, as this can cause congestion.
