Train-travellers are set to save at the 2012 Olympics. Find cheap train fares and sprint to the London Olympics 2012 with redspottedhanky.com.
Getting to the ancient Olympics may have involved a trek by donkey, by chariot or on-foot, but transport to the 2012 event needn't be an Olympic test of endurance. Today's sports fans can save on their shoe leather and easily get to the London Games by train.
The Association of Train Operating Companies has reported that rail firms will be providing low cost fares to and from the Games from this month onwards, so spectators are set to save cash by taking the train too. According to ATOC, Olympic-goers will be able to purchase train tickets more than 12 months before the games, with return fares starting from £15.
Cheap fares will be on offer to London as well as other event-hosting cities including Coventry, Newcastle , Glasgow , Manchester , Cardiff and Weymouth. Olympic-goers are also expected to make use of the country's rail network to get around the individual Games, not just to get to the cities they're in.
Spectators to events in central London wiill receive an official Games Travelcard with their tickets that will allow them to travel between zones 1 - 9 for free. And Olympic organisers have worked with ATOC to develop a new timetable featuring new early- and late-running services especially for the Games. So, over 8 million spectators will be able to travel easily around London and other Olympic and Paralympic host cities.
Michael Roberts, ATOC's Chief Executive, has said that train-travelling sports fans will benefit from flexible terms and conditions as well as early booking - so sports fans can easily extend their stay on a whim when visiting an Olympic host city.
"Not only will the 2012 Games Tickets offer spectators great value for money, they can be booked over 12 months in advance - a UK first for a major event - and are flexible to allow spectators to change their plans," he said.
"Thousands of extra services, earlier starting and later trains will be provided during the Games to help ensure spectators enjoy all of the action."
